BOOK DESIGN
Porchraits by Neil Zeller

352 pages of portraits taken from March 2020 to July 2020 when the world was locked down. Neil contacted me about helping him make a book from portraits he had taken of people during Covid. The photos were taken at peoples homes with Neil social distancing while he shot. I thought this project was amazing and important. I wanted to be part of this project that would capture Calgarians in this moment in history and tell a tiny bit of their story.

My goal was to let the photos be the star of this book. Simple design with large photos. Neil wanted people to tell their story in their words, so nothing was edited, just spell checked - so I had to work with what I got. Usually if the copy is too long, the writer and edit it down to fit the design, but with this project it was a bit of a puzzle making it all fit together. It was "a beast" as I told Neil about half way through the project, but it was important and in the end it turned out pretty great.
